Model categories, first introduced by Quillen in [Qui67], form the foundation of homotopy theory. Model categories are used to give an effective construction of the localization of categories, where the problem is to convert a class of morphisms called weak-equivalences into isomorphisms. The goal of this course is to introduce the basis of model categories and review some of its applications, in particular in connection to problems related to Representation Theory of Algebras.
